Comprehensive care for children
From diagnostic testing to round-the-clock critical care, our pediatric doctors and intensivists combine experience with technology to help your child feel better as quickly as possible.
Pediatric intensive care unit (PICU)
Along with an acute care inpatient unit, we also have a pediatric ICU, one of the only units of its kind in Central Louisiana. Our PICU is staffed with highly trained pediatric intensivists and nurses providing 24/7 monitoring and treatment for children. Specialized equipment and low staff-to-patient ratio allows your child to received focused, critical care when they need it most.
Pediatric specialty clinic
The Specialty Clinic offers access to a wide range of pediatric subspecialists, who are doctors with extra training in a specific area of children's health. They understand the unique issues faced by children and are committed to creating personalized treatment plans to address your child's condition. Service lines our pediatric doctors represent include:
- Gastroenterology
- Hematology and oncology
- Neurology
- Orthopedics
- Pulmonology
The clinic is located on the fourth floor of the Medical Pavilion at Rapides Women's and Children's Hospital. You can call (318) 769-7640 for more information or to make an appointment.
Noninvasive, child-friendly sedation services
We recognize that children may feel nervous about certain medical procedures. Our experienced pediatric intensivists offer sedation services that can help decrease your child's fear and anxiety, allowing them to be more relaxed and at ease and our care team to work more efficiently and safely during those procedures.
Some of the diagnostic and imaging tests that can go more smoothly with sedation include:
- Augmented vector rights (AVRs)
- Bone scan
- Bronchoscopy
- Computerized tomography (CT) scan
- Electroencephalogram (EEG)
- Hearing tests
- Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) scan
- Voiding cystourethrogram (VCUG)
Talk to your doctor if you think your child would benefit from sedation, or call (318) 769-7607 to schedule this service.
